People, Feature,

Here, Anne Hathaway and the cast of The Idea of You dish on their favorite scenes and what drew them to the much-anticipated project.

The star-studded cast of Robinne Lee’s viral novel turned film, The Idea of You, flocked to Austin for the final red carpet of SXSW 2024, where fans waited hours in line to catch a glimpse of the celebs and get a ticket to the max capacity filled movie directed by Michael Showalter that is taking Hollywood by storm. When we say viral, we mean it: the film has broken the record for the most-watched trailer ever for a streaming movie. The Idea of You is easily one of the year’s most anticipated films.

Hathaway, who plays the lead Solène Marchand, turned 40 while filming the 40-year-old role and felt very connected to the character, as one can imagine. When asked what taking the role on meant to her, Hathaway said she was thrilled, and it was “an honor to get to represent her cinematically.” Hathaway was emotional on stage post-screening as she said through tears that she “will never forget this ever” and was “so grateful for the audience’s reactions” throughout the film. She sat in the audience of the historic Paramount Theater among the crowd, laughing with them and genuinely experiencing what they did along with her fellow cast, crew and director.

Her co-star Nicholas Galitzine, who plays Hayes Campbell, was all smiles when talking about playing the counterpart of the iconic Anne Hathaway. When asked about his favorite scene, he replied, “There are so many great ones.” But, he said his ultimate was when “Annie and I did this wonderful scene in Haye’s hotel room where we do this kind of improvised dance routine involving fries and a chicken nugget, and I think it’s so unique. I don’t think there is anything like it in other movies.” And for that reason, it has a special place in Galitzine’s heart.

For Izzy or Ella Rubin, who plays Anne’s daughter in the film, this was a memorable experience, as it was her first feature film. When asked about Rubin’s favorite scene, she quickly replied, “Singing in the car with [Anne]... it was my first day shooting, and it was great.” It was indeed great as the fans in the audience ate the scene up.

May 2nd, The Idea of You comes to Prime Video, and then you too can enjoy the film about the “sexual awakening of a woman at 40, which is not an often told story,” Hathaway explains perfectly. The film stole hearts at its world premiere at SXSW, and we anticipate it will continue to do so.
