Top Austin makeup experts reveal the how-to behind their favorite looks for the season.
LOOK: Angel Face EXPERT: Gertie Wilson
A former ballet dancer, Wilson is the mastermind behind the new Elevé Cosmetics, a vegan, Austin-based beauty line. Wilson recommends a lit-from-within, bright-eyed look to make you the angel of the ball. Combine a tinted moisturizer with her line’s Luminizer for a natural bronze glow, and top it off with a festive burgundy blush across the apples of your cheeks. Defined brows frame the perfect winged eye, which Wilson achieves by angling clear tape beneath the lower lash line toward the end of the brow as a stencil. For mistletoe-ready lips, use a smudge-free lip stain in cherry red or sultry scarlet.
Spencer recently returned to Texas after working in New York, where she prepared everyone from Broadway stars to jewelry designer Kendra Scott for red carpets and photo shoots. She recommends “a frosty lip and bright eye that really makes you look sparkling and special.” Play up your eyes with a soft matte brown shadow, smoky black liner, and false eyelashes, and finish with a white or nude eyeliner to your waterline to fake the sleep you haven’t been getting. Forgo the red lip for a frosty or metallic shade that won’t need constant reapplication after your second martini or a stolen smooch.
