Dani Lachowicz, founder of Bloom + Grace, reveals her favorite discoveries as an enthusiastic newcomer to the city.

Dani Lachowicz has lived all over the world—from sub-Saharan Africa, where she worked for the International Rescue Committee, to New York City—but Austin was where she chose to launch her socially conscious line of statement jewelry, Bloom + Grace, in 2013.
“I was looking to settle down somewhere that combined my favorite parts of everywhere I have lived, and Austin is a great mix of all the places that I love,” she says. “The people are incredibly friendly and kind. There is always something to do, the food is amazing, and the weather is gorgeous.”
Bloom + Grace, an e-commerce site, gives artisans in developing countries opportunities for economic advancement while increasing access to basic vaccinations to those who need it most. Each piece of jewelry purchased provides up to 32 children with lifesaving vaccines, and at the end of this year, they will have provided more than 40,000 children with vaccinations. Austin Way caught up with the jet-setting downtown dweller to discover all her favorite Austin spots for style, inspiration, and fun.
“I will be doing all my holiday shopping at the new Katie Kime flagship store (500 N. Lamar Blvd., 512-358-4478),” Lachowicz says. “Her prints are bright and colorful, so there is no way not to be happy when you are surrounded by them—or wearing them.”

Lachowicz is also a fan of Goorin Bros. (1323 S. Congress Ave., 512-326-4287). “Before I went to Africa for the first time,” she recalls, “I bought a Panama hat, and now I can’t travel—or be outdoors anywhere—without one. Goorin Bros. has a huge selection of hats that keep the sun off your face but still manage to make you look stylish.”
She spends a lot of time in offices and on planes, but when she has downtime in Austin, Lachowicz loves to be as active as possible. “Texas Trail Rides (512-697-9722) has a gorgeous property in Driftwood where I go horseback riding,” she says. “I love to catch up with friends on walks around Lady Bird Lake. And Mod Fitness (2041 S. Lamar Blvd. and 4406 Burnet Road, 512-765-5663) barre classes are the best way to get in shape quickly.”
“For a night out,” she says, “My first stop is Launderette (2115 Holly St., 512-382-1599). Sharing small plates is my absolute favorite way to eat. I love how every dish there is a completely unique combination of flavors. I always end with a birthday cake ice cream sandwich!” For a night in, Lachowicz opts for a Favor delivery order from Elizabeth Street Cafe (1501 S. First St., 512-291- 2881).
“My order history will show a long list of the same thing,” she admits, “Tofu spring rolls and a flank steak bun. It’s the best meal to unwind with after a long trip.”
