Between the planning, travel, and conversations with your extended family members, the holiday season can often be a bit overwhelming. Luckily, there’s plenty to do in Austin if you decide to forego the inevitable stress this year. Here’s a list of activities we think would make for an excellent stay-cation this holiday season.
Book a Night at a Local Hotel
Staying in Austin doesn’t have to mean staying put in your own home. Reserve a night or two at one of Austin’s luxurious hotels for a special experience.
If you’re hoping for a short getaway, look no further than Horseshoe Bay Resort. Located just about 1.5 hours outside of Austin, Horseshoe Bay offers activities for all ages. Event highlights include a performance of the Nutcracker by Ms. Rhonda’s School of Dance, a Fredericksburg dance company, on Sunday, December 17. 200 Hi Cir N, Horseshoe Bay. 877-611-0112
Spend a few nights relaxing at Lone Star Court, located in The Domain. This hotel showcases the best of what Austin has to offer with it’s modern, retro inspired country concept. It offers live music and a pool “reminiscent of a local Texas swimming hole.” Step outside and experience The Domain with its variety of restaurants, cafés, shopping stores, and holiday events, too. 10901 Domain Drive, 512-814-2625
Sip on a Local Beverages
Give yourself another reason to toast the season with a day trip to one of Austin’s local wineries, breweries, or distilleries.
For those particular to spirits, visit Treaty Oak Distilling in Dripping Springs this holiday season. Visitors can take a tour of the production facility, sip on beers and spirits, dine at the on-site restaurant, and even purchase a few holiday gifts at the gift shop. Cheers. 16604 Fitzhugh Rd, Dripping Springs, 512-599-0335
Spend the day in Texas Hill Country, sipping on award-winning wines made with Texas fruits at Duchman Family Winery. Offering daily wine tastings and private tours, and a view of the beautiful vineyard, this winery makes for a memorable day and relaxing getaway. 13308 Farm to Market150, Driftwood, 512-858-1470
Reserve your table at that restaurant you’ve always wanted to try.
For the second year, Eden East will be welcoming guests to enjoy the longest night of the year (December 21) with live music, complementary cocktails, and seasonal fare from the restaurant’s chefs. Partygoers can cozy up to the bonfire or shop from the local vendors scheduled to attend. Tickets are $85. 755 Springdale Rd, 512-428-6500
Located in downtown Austin, Péché is the perfect restaurant to experience something special during the holiday season. The dimly lit restaurant is lined with dark, leather booths where patrons can cozy up over a craft cocktail, glass of wine, or a comforting entrée from the restaurant’s winter menu, like the lamb bourguignon. 208 W 4th St., 512-494-4011
