How long have you been a part of the Austin Community?
I was in high school when my family moved here. I attended Westwood and then stayed in Austin to pursue both my undergraduate and master’s degrees at the University of Texas. Austin has really shaped my journey, both personally and professionally, and I’ve loved being part of this vibrant community for so long.
What made you want to open Estilo?
I started my career as a child and family therapist because I loved helping people feel better about themselves every day. However, being a therapist can be emotionally taxing. I’ve always had a passion for fashion, so I decided to start working part-time at a local boutique. That’s when I realized I could help people feel good about themselves through clothing and styling, a kind of retail therapy. That’s what inspired me to open Estilo in 2005. It allowed me to combine my love for helping others with my passion for fashion.
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Authentic: I pride myself on being authentic in every interaction, whether with customers, vendors, or friends. I always approach relationships with genuine care and honesty. Driven: As an entrepreneur for over 20 years, I’ve been driven to navigate through three recessions, a pandemic, and the constant challenges of both brick-and-mortar and online retail. Charismatic: I believe my charisma comes through in media appearances, interviews, and my everyday interactions, and I want to leave a positive, lasting impression on everyone I meet.
What is your favorite part about owning a business in Austin?
My favorite part is being part of such a close-knit community. I love Austin, especially the small Tarrytown community where we live and work. We have such loyal customers who make us their trusted go-to, which means the world to me. In a city where people have plenty of choices, they choose us because we make shopping fun and personal—it’s more than just buying clothes; it’s about the experience we all have together and the relationships we build.
