COLTER PECK

Chef Colter Peck has enough ink to convince anyone he is well-seasoned, so he keeps his ensembles simple and lets the art do the talking. “I wear a clean, white T-shirt 90% of the time,” he says. “Or a long-sleeve shirt and some shorts.” While the sharks, horseshoes and surfing cowboys certainly tell a story, the best way to know Peck is through his food. Although his retaurant on South Lamar, Elementary, is closed, the adjacent wine bar, Hopscotch, remains open and offers some of Elementary’s most popular dishes like ramen risotto. Even wrapped in an apron, Peck says his style always stands out: “I think it’s very easy to differentiate yourself [in Austin] because there isn’t really one specific style that’s adhered to.”

MANISH VORA

It is hard to miss the bright pink Museum of Ice Cream (MOIC) in The Domain, and, fortunately, it is equally easy to spot Manish Vora, the concept’s co-founder and CEO. After all, he says his closet is “colorful and weird” and has everything ranging from “tuxedos to Chinese tea robes.” Since Vora moved here in 2021, he has scooped up fun finds from ByGeorge, Tippy Taylor, and various vintage shops. However, he most often rocks a low-cut ACNE T-shirt and soft cotton or linen pants with a robe, cardigan or light jacket. He also finds reasons to regularly wear pink (MOIC’s signature color). No matter what, he always manages to look chill in a city he says displays “a combination of hipster ranch and ‘I don’t care what anybody thinks.’” Spoken like a true local.

DR. EDWARD BUCHANAN

When Dr. Edward Buchanan moved from Houston last year to become the chief surgical officer at the new Texas Children’s Hospital North Austin Campus, his wardrobe remained largely unchanged. If the doc is not wearing scrubs or casual wear, he typically dons a bespoke blue or gray two-piece suit, often from Knot Standard. His footwear, however, is far less conventional since he wears socks that patients have gifted him through the years, featuring everything from dinosaurs to SpongeBob SquarePants. The bottom line is he will do whatever it takes to make his patients smile.

TORRENCE & THURMAN THOMAS

Twin musicians Torrence and Thurman Thomas, known as THEBROSFRESH, studied style from the jump. “When we were kids, we would get GQ magazine, figure out what’s hot, and see the styling of the different pieces,” Thurman recalls. While they grew up in Louisiana with hip-hop/urban fashion influences, it took a move to Austin in 2022 to unearth their signature look with the help of milliner Teressa Foglia. “It’s the first time we ever got to put our heads in custom hats,” Torrence recalls. “We like to bridge the worlds of Japanese/Americana-meets-Western-meets-certain elements of hip-hop.” The duo is set to rock all senses with new music and a short film premiering.
