Husband-and-wife duo Nick and Amanda Swift introduce their handmade whiskey.
Inspired by European travels and their shared love of fine spirits, Nick and Amanda Swift began to distill their own single-malt liquor and opened the Swift Distillery this year. Their first single-malt whiskey hits shelves this month (suggested retail price per bottle is $55), and it will be sold in select liquor stores in Austin.
Noticing an absence of single-malt whiskeys in the US, the couple embarked on a labor of love. “There are a lot of shortcuts taken in the industry, such as using neutral grain spirits or small barrels,” Nick explains. “We decided to honor 400 years of tradition in whiskey making and never compromise on the process or favor.” Grain is imported from Scotland; the distilling is performed by hand. The Swifts promise, “You will find no other whiskey made in America this way.”
