What inspired you to become a musician?
I became a professional musician because music is the most universal language, one that can touch hearts, heal wounds, and bring people together across all boundaries.
Tell us about the SaulPaul Foundation.
It is a launchpad for young people to live their best lives and a platform for community members to serve as community leaders. We are dedicated to empowering young people as catalysts for positive change, transforming lives in Central Texas and beyond. We provide mentorship, career development, experiential learning opportunities and specialized programming to equip them with tools to overcome adversity and the skills and confidence to become leaders.
The Mayor of Austin officially proclaimed May 17th as SaulPaul’s Be The Change Day (#bethechange, saulpaulfoundation.org). The city gave me a day, and going forward, I’m using that as a day to give back. The annual SaulPaul’s Money, Music and Arts career expo—a music festival that combines educational panel discussions with experts, entrepreneurs, students, and celebrities with inspirational musical performances, actionable sessions, and networking opportunities—is going to be the event of the year.
What do you want the community to know?
I want people to know they were born on purpose with a purpose. I want to light a fire in people’s hearts to embrace their uniqueness and to leverage their natural gifts and talents into their greatest assets. I want everyone to spark change. I want my community to know that it’s essential to embrace that journey, to own your power, and to be unapologetically, fearlessly yourself.
