For nearly ten years, Dimmitt Contemporary Art has been at the forefront of promoting the work or emerging, mid-career and established contemporary artists. The Houston-based gallery spotlights a sumptuous talent pool working in all media including painting, works on paper, sculpture and photography. This fall the gallery will host the highly anticipated solo exhibition with Austin-based artist Sarah Ferguson. The show “Bouquet,” features the incredibly talented abstract artist whose experimentation with the trifecta of light, color and perception has caught the attention of art enthusiasts and collectors alike.

A Dallas-based contemporary art gallery focusing on emerging and mid-career artists, Gallery 12.26 was founded by sisters Hannah Fagadau and Hilary Fagadau in 2019 with the intention to offer a fresh, international perspective to the Dallas art community and gallery landscape. The gallery hosts around ten exhibitions each year, representing artists and works that are recognized both nationally and internationally.

Following a successful pop-up gallery in early 2021, Gallery 12.26 recently opened an additional location and project space in Los Angeles. The flagship Dallas location launched two shows during the 2022 Dallas Art Fair—Liz Nielsen: Electric Romance and Claire Colette: Open Channel.

Conduit Gallery first opened its space to the Dallas art community in 1984, and today, the gallery continues to maintain its longstanding presence in the area that it has become well-known for, thanks to the talent of its 30 core artists who provide a sustained, rigorous list of exhibitions each year as well as the gallery’s dedication to both represented and unrepresented artists. Beloved by both art novices and experts alike, Conduit Gallery runs two exhibitions simultaneously in addition to its Project Room, an in-house space reserved for works by young contemporary artists.

Owner Nancy Whitenack and director and project room curator Danette Dufilho ensure the integrity and continued variety of works on display at Conduit Gallery of contemporary exhibitions of art, showcasing established rising stars from Texas and around the world.

As one of Texas’ top gallerists, Laura Rathe represents a top-tier roster of mid-career and established contemporary artists. Featuring contemporary art, the gallery at Peter Augustus focuses on emerging and mid-career artists, primarily from the Asia-Pacific region with a special focus on Japan. Founded in 2021 by Dallas native Peter Augustus Owen, former associate publisher of Art Asia Pacific magazine and associate director of public relations and digital marketing for Perrotin in Asia, Peter brings more than a decade of experience working with artists to the gallery.

In addition to his in-depth art, marketing, editorial, public relations and advertising experiences, Peter is also an avid supporter of human rights issues and his gallery is the culmination and representation of his varied interests and knowledge in the arts community. Since opening his doors, Peter has hosted several artists’ first solo exhibitions in North America.

For gallery owners Emmanuel and Dr. Valerie Gillespie, instilling a sense of joy while learning is imperative to their teaching practices—a principle that’s evidenced by their successful management and combination of strengths that benefit both families and the community. The gallery also aids students interested in continuing art in high school and college through their in-house program, Portfolio Prep.

The Gillespies have long-standing roots in the art community: both are passionate advocates of the arts and visual arts. A graduate of Booker T. Washington School of the Performing and Visual Arts, Emmanual is an art instructor at the Winston School in Dallas, and his own art presents images of water with mixed media imagery. An independent curator, Valerie holds a doctorate in educational leadership from The University of New England in Portland and curatorial practice from NYU. In addition to her work at Pencil on Paper Gallery, Valerie also serves as the director of fine arts at the Winston School in Dallas and her own recent exhibitions include curatorial projects with the 500X Gallery in Dallas, The Beachum Family and Southern Methodist University, and the Texas Visual Arts Association.
